THE EXHIBITION

BIG ATTRACTIONS BEGIN TO-DAY Bx TELZGBArn—Pbess association Dunedin, January 5. Last night the seventh week of the exhibition concluded, with the magnificent total attendance record of 794,985. The attendance during the next week, too, is likely to be heavy, as to-morrow will begin two big popular attractions. These are ' the championship competitions festivals, for which entries have been received from all parts of the Dominion, and the axeman’s championsnip carnival, with the biggest prize money ever oflered for such an event in New Zealand. All the well-known Dominion axemen and several from Australia will take part in the competitions, which will be held each night in the sports ground under arc lights. The following events will be competed. this evening:—First heat 12-inch standing handicap chop, first and second heats 18-inch double-handed sawing championship, first, second, third, fourth, and* fifth heats 10-tnch underhand chop handicap

Messrs. W. S. Wilson and W. H. Nimrao, the special delegates from Wellington in connection with the Wellington proposal to follow Dunedin’s example, said: “We would like to take advantage of the occasion to appeal to all people in the Dominion, particularly those in the North Island, not to let the opportunity go bv without visiting what is undoubtedly the best exhibition yet held south of the line. We were absolutely amazed at the colossal scale on which it is planned and the splendid way in

which it has been carried out. Press reports cannot possibly convey with adequacy the vastriess of its conception, the great breadth of Dominion, nay international spirit, in which it has been designed, and the amount of thought put into every detail.”
