BRILLIANT EXHIBITION BY LOWRY

The New Zealanders batted very well in their match against South Australia, getting within 12 ot lhe local team's score. Lowry gave a brilliant exhibition, scoring 123 in 95 minutes. South Australia, in the second innings, however, lias 109 runs for no wickets.

New Zealand had 20 runs up when Blunt and Worker resumed to the bowling of Palmer and A. Richardson. The weather was perfect and the wicket last. The attendance waa P< The batsmen opened cautiously, scoring slowly. Grimmett immediate-. lv on relieving Palmer had Worker in difficulties, ultimately taking a catch off his own bowling. Worker took 51 minutes to make 14. With Blunt and Allcott batting, dull play, ensued, 50 being reached in 71 minutes. McKay’s first over saw the dismissal of Allcott, the bowler taking an easy catch . close up to the wicket. Oliver quickly rattled up 22, when Grimmett brilliantly held a hot return. The visitors had lost three wickets for 85. Blunt was twice dropped when in the forties, both being hard chances. He reached 50 in 117 minutes. Dacre opened the scoring was accelerated. Grimmett was punished severely, and the tb ’ rd 50 was raised in 17 minutes. At 65 Blunt lost his wicket. He jumped out to Grimmett, and his bails were smartly, removed bv the wicketkeeper. Blunt batted well, taking 133 minutes to get his runs, hitting seven fours. Dacre was more vigorous, and hit the bowling all over the field. He was particularly effective on the leg, and made 77 in 69 minutes, hitting ten 4's and two 6’s. Plav was much brighter after through the efforts of Dacre and Lowry, who shaped forcefully. The latter took 46 minutes to get 50. He was very strong on the on side, and got 17 off Grimmett in one ever, reaching his century in 81 minutes. Lowry, was dismissed when 123, _ made in 95 rniutes. Richardson came in and dismissed the remaining four batsmen in two overs,' finishing with the average of four wickets for 41. New Zealand had done well, making a total of onlv 12 short of the local score. An liour was left for play when Parry and A. Richardson opened the second innings. Both batsmen played safe but vigorous cricket, taking advantage of every opportunity to get runs. Fifty came up in 28 minutes. Parry, the smallest cricketer in South Australia, batted gracefully and made 50 in 51 minutes. The pair raised the century in 58 minutes. The following are the scores:— NEW ZEALAND. First Innings. A one-day match was played here today between Wellington and Hawkes Bay The visitors batted well and won by 75 runs.
