Reference was made to the death of Mr. Wvlie at the Wellington Club s green yesterday morning bv Mr. h. Potter, who asked all the bowlers engaged in the tournament on that green to stand in silence for a few moments as a tribute of respect to the deceased. The late Mr. Wvlie was a brothcr-m--law of Mr. A. h'. Wircn, of Wellington. In his vouth Mr. Wvlie was a keen cricketer. On one occasion when playing on the Basin Reserve for the old Citv Club in Wellington, he hit a ball througli ail adjoining shop window. The shopkeeper claimed damages against the club, but the club denied liability, whereupon the shopkeeper proceeded against Mr. W-vhc. Mr. Wvlie defended the case, and, pleading infancy, judgment was given against the shopkeeper.. Mr. Dav, the official secretary to Governor-General, accompanied by.
