Nelson, December 24. The fire oti Rabbit Island, which commenced last Saturday afternoon last has now been definitely got u dcr ’ control due to the strenuous efforts of Mr. Steele of the Forestiy Department and a band of wfllmg helpers. About 1200 acres on the eastern portion of the island has been swept but fortunately the damage to the. pine plantations has been very small Oulv about ten acres were destroyed, of which three acres of 11-year-old trees have been destroyed and of the remaining seven acres planted in 1922 it is estimated that o per cent, will be saved.
