ANTI BRITISH NEWS

BROADCASTED IN QUEENS,. LAND BY GOVERNMENT STATION OFFICIAL INQUIRIES TO BE MADE The broadcasting from the Queensland Government station of a budget of anti-British news amazed listeners. The Federal Prime Minister says he will have inquiries made into the matter. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright (Received August 21, 0.5 a.m.) Brisbane, August 20. Listeners-in to the Queensland Government broadcasting station were amazed to hear a budget of antiBritish news, purporting to be portion of the wireless news service. One item alleged that the Conservative Government which controlled the destinies of the British nation has determined on playing a lone hand in the Orient; that the Washington Treaty had never been put into effect by any of the signatories, and that Britain’s present attitude if persisted in would have the effect of nullifying it. The statement added that Britain had larger interests in China than any other of the Powers, and evidently was determined to push them at all costs. It concluded: “It is evident that the British Government has decided to resort to arms to uphold her financial interests, and will finally compel other Howeys to fhke sides, and the array probablv will be, Britain, France and Italy, and some minor powers, • against China. Russia and probably Germany.—Press Assn. Melbourne, August 20. In the House of Representatives Mr. Bruce, the Prime Minister, was asked whether the Government was aware of use being made of the Queensland Government broadcasting station and the type of messages being broadcasted under the heading of news service. In reply Mr. Bruce stated that he would have immediate inquiries made to ascertain the Government’s powers. The Postmaster-General said the Commonwealth Postal Department granted the broadcasting licenses and the Queensland Government station was on the same footing as other stations. The Government, therefore, had power to veto any item sent from any station.—Press Assn.
