BASIN RESERVE PAVILION
TO be completed next MONTH The new pavilion nt the Basin Reserve will be completed before the end of next month. Its commanding proportions are already exciting a good deal of favourable comment. As several of the big dressing-rooms have been finished off, the old wooden pavilion, which lias stood for nearly half a century, may now be removed at any time, and will probably be demolished Avithin the next few Aveeks. Though it is anticipated that tlie new pavilion will serve the Basin for many years to come, the ultimate idea, as the city grows, ik to extend the present structure north and south, in a manner tliat will conform to the new shape of the ground. The immediate intention is to do away altogether Avith the straight picket fence which divides the playing area from the main walk. The playing area is to be extended 40ft. towards the pavilion, from which point it will be curved gracefully on either side to the existing side lines (near the northern and southern gates). Bv this means the line for boundary hits from the central pitch will be nearer cqui-distant from the batting creases. It will also mean a much finer view of the game from the pavilion, as the whole of the ground will be brought within visual focus. The terracing of the ground north and south of the pavilion will also provide vantage. ground for many more spectators" than is at present the case.
