MOTOR UNION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeling of the executive of the Nirth Island Motor Union was held last evening, Mr. AV. H. Booth presiding. . The resignation of Mr. 11. Amos was received with regret, and a notion expressing appreciation of his good work during his term of office was passed. Mr. C. M. Banks was appointed to the vacancy for the remainder of the term. A telegram from Auckland protesting against tlie removal of concessions for railway carriage of road metal was received. It was stated unanimously by members that in their opinion the railways, which "were expected to stand on their own bottom, should not lose the amounts conceded in carriage of Hine, manure, metal, etc., which should be refunded the railways from the Consolidated Fund. It was decided, in order to support Auckland as far as possible, that Messrs. C. M. Banks, Toogopd. and the secretary approach the Minister or Railways, aiid while affirming the principle of no concessions, suggest that m exceptional cases, such as that of Auckland, which had .no metal within 100 miles, the concession, he mado from th© Consolidated Fund. It was decided that the delegates to the conference be asked to support trie present system of plate registration, but to have a free hand. The' delegates appointed were the chairman and Mr. A. J. Toogood. It was decided to ask the Government to go into tlm matter of the expense ot county administration. The Tailiapc- Chamber of Commerce wrote suggesting that the AAaioruruTokaanu road be taken over by the Government. If this road was put in pvup per order, Taupo would be a week-end (rip from AVellington. It was decided to ask thci Highways Board to either take over or subsidise this road and make it a main road. Support was given to tlie propose! tw Mr? F. AVliitcoinb, of Pahiatua, that farmers put all lower fences on hillside roads on the edge of the road, whicli would be in the interests of farmers and motorists alike. In view of the large amounts now contributed to the upkeep of roads by motorists, it was resolved to urge thear representation <-n the various district councils.
