MAGISTRATE SUSPENDS LICENSE. A salesman named William Henry Carlyle appeared before Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on fl charge of being drunk while in charge of a motor-car. Sub-Inspector Hollis, who prosecuted for the police, said that on. Saturday afternoon defendant was driving a car along Adelaide Road while in a drunken condition, and bumped into another car. Defendant’s car started again, caught up to the other car, and bumped it again, damaging it to the extent of 35& Mr A. B. Sievwright, who appeared for defendant, said his client suffered from a recurring illness, and as an antidote took port wine and .brandy, also schnapps and sherry, which were considered excellent remedies. On Saturday he had but little breakfast, and the intoxication was not as great as the effect of his illness. He had been informed that his client had The Magistrate imposed a fine of £2a, and costs, and ordered defendant’s driving license to be suspended until expiry, further directing that he be disqualified from holding a driver’s license for a period of twelve months.
