TREATMENT FOR CURES THE AUCKLAND TEST CO-OPERATION NOT ADVISED Br TELBORArn- — Press Association. Auckland, March 23. The committee appointed to co-oper-ate with Dr. E. S. Dukes, who claims that he can cure infantile paralysis this morning sent the following letter to the chairman of the Hospital Board:— “Dear sir,—ln accordance with the wish of the Auckland Hospital Board, we, the undersigned, met Dr. E. S. Dukes this morning. Dr. Dukes stated that lie proposed to treat cases of acute infantile paralysis with remedies, the nature and action of which he refused to disclose. At the same time, he wished no other treatment to be applied. In view of the serious possibilities with which this disease is fraught, we cannot accept the responsibility of sanctioning the omission of those measures on which the medical profession throughout the world are agreed. Further, we cannot recommend the use of any remedy the uatuie of which is not disclosed to the board and its responsible officers. —Yours faithfully, E. B. Gunson, M.D.; E. H. B. HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S REPORT i NINE CANTERBURY CASES Canterbury led the day’s record of cases of infantile paralysis up till J a.m. yesterday, with nine cases. The details are as follow: — Auckland health district.—New Lynn 1; total, 1.. Wellington health district.—Bell Block 1, Riverlea 1, Springdale 1, Motueka 1, Glenhope 1; total, 5. Canterbury health district.—City 5, New Brighton 1, Hornby 1, Hokitika 1, Kaikoura 1; total, 9. Otago health district.—Nil. POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH SEVERAL WOMEN AFFLICTED. Bt Telegraph—Press association Christchurch, March 23. A significant feature of the infantile paralysis notifications during the past week has been the number of cases among adult women. Up to the present the majority of adults who have , been notified as having contracted the disease have proved negative cases, but the few that have turned out to be positive cases have been mostly of a sarious nature. Two further adult cases are included in to-day’s notifications, which number six.

The woman suspect of infantile paralysis has proved negative. A girl 2f years of age has been declared positive, and a girl of 10 years, from the city, died this morning. Timaru, March 23. Two more infantile paralysis cases are reported, a woman of 30 and a boy ° f elght ‘ Wanganui, March 23. Three cases of infantile paralysis were reported to-day. One was a girl thirteen years of age, the second’ a boy aged six, and the third a girl of twenty months.
