NEW ZEALAND OARSMEN IN SYDNEY

WIN BOTH EIGHT AND FOUR-OARED RACES

Sydney, March 21. The New Zealand oarsmen participated to-day in the St. Ignatius College regatta, which was held in fine weather. The presence of the Dominion representatives resulted in a much larger crowd than usual attending. The races were rowed at flood tide.

In the Challenge Eights, ’ Mosman went to the front, and at 300 yards led by a quarter of a length, rowing 37 strokes to the minute to New Zealand’s 36. Shortly after the three-quarter mile post had been passed Mosman faltered a little, and New Zealand gradually drew ahead, and maintaining the lead, woa by three-quarters of a length, with North Shore ten lengths back. The time was smin. 8 4-ssec.

In the Inter-Dominion Fours, at the quarter-mile, the two New Zealand crews were on even terms, leading Mosman by a length. Brown’s Crew was two lengths in front at the halfmile, and taking advantage of the tide ‘ was never afterwards headed, and won by _ three-quarters of a length. Time, smin. 54sec.

In the Handicap Sculls, I. St. Clair was called upon to concede two lengthy starts, and was the last to finish. Goulding, after leading all the way, won easily in 6min. -I4sfec.—Press Assn.
