The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Minister of Lands) returned to Wellington from the Tongariro National Park .yesterday. The Minister of Mines, Marine and Labour (Hon. G. J. Anderson) ■ will return to Wellington by the New Plymouth express, this evening. The Right Rev. Dr. Steward, Bishop of Melanesia; is on a visit' to Wellington. A high tribute was paid at the conference of delegates of the New, Zealand Society of Accountants on Tuesday evening to the valuable services which had been rendered by Mr. Ernest W. Hunt, who was elected secretary to the societv at the first meeting of the council held in Wellington on December 7,1909, and continued in office until June-30,« 1919, when, owing to pressure of other work, he found it necessary to resjgn. In his inaugural address the president (Mr. W. E. Best) declared that the outstanding position of the societv to-day was due in a large measure to the able and strenuous work which , had been performed bv Mr ; Hunt.

Mr. A. 1. A. Roberts, Superintendent, Chief Telegraph Office, Wellington, will retire to-day on superannuation after 40 vears’ service. Mr. Roberts joined the Post and Telegraph Denartment as a cadet in Wellington in February, 1885, and has been associated with the technical branch of ,the service throughout his Departmental career. He has served in various capacities in both , the North and South Islands. After having been for three vears in charge of the cable section in the accountants’ branch, he was appointed officer-in-charge of the telenlione exchange at Christchurch. Five vears later he became superintendent of the telegraph office at Palmerston North, and subsequently was in charge of the telegraph office at Wanganui. For the oast three vears he has been Superintendent at the Chief * Telegraph f/ffice in Wellington. When lie was stationed at Palmerston North, after receiving his first promotion, Mr. Roberts was for three vears instructor in electricity ami magnetism at the Palmerston North Technical School, being tlie first to hold that appointment after the school was opened. After completing a round of visits in the Dominion, Mr. Roberts, accompanied bv his wife and daughter, will leave Wellington bv the Tahiti on March 17 for Sydney, en route for Great Britain ami the Continent. . and vjll be absent for twelve months. Mr. Gilbert McKay, M.P. for Hastings, and Mr k W. I). Lvsnjir, M.P. for Gisborne, are visiting Wellington.

Mr. G. W. Forbes, M.P. for Hiirutiiii, who has been attending a meeting of the Liberal-Labour Party’s Executive at Auckland, arrived in Wellington vesterdav, ami left for the south last night. Mr. Ti. J. Howard. M.P., was a passenger bv the Wahine from Lyttelton yesterday.
