THEFT ON FERRY STEAMER
The theft of a watch and chain, valued at £3 15s„ the property of a Steward on the Lyttelton ferry steamer Wabine, resulted ’-n the apearance before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, of a domestic named Madge Cecilia Ilansbury. Sub-Inspector Hollis stated that accused who had been a passenger on the Wahine, was found during the night m the quarters of one of the stewards with her hand underthe man’s pillow The watch and chain were later to be' missing, and subsequently the police recovered them from the woman. Accused stated that she was under the influence of liquor at the time, and did not know wliat she was doing. She was convicted, and ordered to come up Z sentence if called, upon . within twelve months, a condition being that she take out a prohibition order against herself “I won’t ever touch liquor again, su,” said accused as she stepped down.
