4 Some time was spent at the Dominion conference of the Farmers’ Union yesterday in discussing means of raising the revenue required by the Main Highways Board. The following Auckland remit on tho y subject was submitted: “That this ' conference is of the opinion that the provision of better roads to meet the demands of motor traffic should be provided by other means than the taxation of farmers, either bv the Government or through the county councils. and that a scheme should be devised whereby the users of tho roads should contribute to their upkeep.” Mr. C. K. Wilson (Pio Pio) said that there was a chance of this cry for better roads introducing a dangerous principle.
