PETONE BOROUGH
COUNCIL MATTERS The fortnightly meeting of tho Petone Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: 'The Mayor (Mr. J. W. McEwan), and Councillors C. P. Brocklebanfc, A. G. Steffansen, M. Jacobsen, R. H. Jones, H. Jay, W. Hay, and G. Cook. Tho Lower Hutt Municipal Band was granted permission to. hold a sacred concert on tho evening of May 25. The council agreed to take over the streets in tlw? Gear estate paying to the District Public Trustee C4OO. Considerable discussion ranged round a letter from the. Public Works Department asking if the borough engineer would provide an ‘estimate cf what it would cost to locate and repair the Ifak in the Patrick Street sewer, and whether the wort could r, e undertaken by borough workmen. It was decided,- on the motion of Councillor Hay, seconded by the Mayor. that the council do the work at cost price plus 10 per cent A grant of £25 is to be made to the Taita Cemetery Boarl. Tlie engineers’ report, wliich was adopted, contained reference to the fact that owing to the vev riuch increased motor, traffic following on the railway strike, all the bo.’on.ch roads, but more especially that nart of the Hutt Road newly metalled, were in a bad state.
It was stated that building permits had been issued for six dwellings, and five other buildings, the total value being £4515.
