RETURNED SOLDIERS
ORGANISATION QUESTION By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, May 12. The annual conference of the Wellington District U.S.A, was held on Saturday. There was a fair attendance of delegates. Discussion centred on a proposal to abolish tho district scheme of organisation, delegates expressing the opinion that the district method was doomed. They needed a more simple and less expensive form of organisation. It was decided to send a remit to the Dominion Conference, urging the abolition of tho district scheme, as now constituted, and the substitution of a scheme which would enable tho work of the R.S A. to be carried on at a 'minimum of expense. The annual report showed a further decrease in membership, and an increase in expenditure over revenue. The need for a home for veteran returned men was discussed. It was mentioned that some men now 60 years of ago would soon need assistance. Such a home could provide treatment for neurasthenic cases instead of sending the men to mental hospitals. The general opinion of the nieetinc was that the time was not yet opportune, but delegates to the Dominion Conference were asked to keep it in mind. It was decided to forward a remit urging the Government to have the present legislation amended to allow of revaluation of stock mortgages.. A remit from the Ilawera Associa- i tion, urging the Government to give more sympathetic consideration to soldiers’ house loans, was not approved, the majority of the delegates, eulogising the sympathy and consideration shown by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
