SCULLING

FURTHER STATEMENT BY HANNAN. By Tslegbafh—Press AssociationBlenheim, May 12. Replying to McDevitt’s statement regarding the Australasian sculling championship, J. P. Hannan, holder of the title, repeats that he refused to row McDevitt again because ho took exception to his conduct, but apart from that, he had already provisionally accepted a challenge from Arnst and according to the rules he was bound to reserve himself, for that. As for the proposed competition at Dargavillo, he said that such a contest was all right in the way of bringing tho best sculling talent to the top, but would bo quite wrong for him or anyone else to allow the title to bo turned into a prize for a kind of general scramble. If ho had consented to that plan, he would have failed in his duty to the title.
