OLYMPIC GAMES
MISS G. SHAND FAREWELLED. Members of the Olympic Council Comnutiee yesteixlay entertained Miss Gwitha Shand, New Zealand’s representative in swimming, who is shortly to leave for tiie Olympic Games to bo held in Faris this year. Miss Shand was handed, for members of the team, the ferns presented by Messrs. Mayer and Kean. The silk New Zealand banner, which bears the inscription, “Antwerp 1920,” has already been forwarded to Paris. Air. A. H. Davies, chairman of tho New Zealand Council, wished Alias Shand bon voyage to Paris and success at tho games. He felt sure she would worthily uphold the traditions of New Zealand in France and in Great Britain. She would bo opposed by world’s champions, and if defeated. New Zealanders would at least know she had done her best. In returning thanks, Miss Shand said she would do her very best to win, not so much for herself, but for tho honour of New Zealand. Afiss Shand, who left for Auckland by the Main Trunk express, will be accompanied on her voyage by Alisscs A. and G. Thomson, of Christchurch, who are paying a visit to Efigland and the Continent.
