SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM IN ENGLAND DERBYSHIRE MATCH ’ DRAWN London, Alay 9. Tho match between South Africa anti Derbyshire, which yesterday was held up by rain, was started to-day and resulted in a draw. There was intermittent sunshine, and occasional bits of bright play, but the ground was so soft that it took two hours and a hall to make a hundred runs. The bowlers were assisted by the condition of the wicket, especially after tho luncheon adjournment. 'l’he attendance was small. South Africa declared when they had lost seven wickets f0r,161 runs (Al. J. Commaille 43, H. AV. Taylor 33, R. 11. Catterall 29, A. D. Nourse not out 25). AV. Bestwick took three wickets for 37 runs. AVhen play ended Derbyshire had lost five wickets for 78 runs (S. Cadman 30, H. Storer 28). J. AL Blankenberg took two wickets for 13 runs and E. I’. Nupen two for 16.—Reuter.

MATCH AGAINST SURREY RAIN STOPS PLAY. (Rec. Alay 11, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 10. South Africa commenced its match against Surrey. Tho latter won the toss, batted on a good, wicket, and scored 150 for seven wickets (Hobbs 12, Jeacocke 15, Shepherd 30, Abel 24, Fender not out 52, Peach not out 6). Rain fell heavily at the tea adjournment, and play was abandoned for the day, after 159 minutes’ play. At the commencement scoring was very slow, Pegler being unplayable. Abel and Shepherd played soundly. Fender livened the game up. His innings so far has occupied 52 minutes, and include eight fours. Tho attendance was 8000. —Router. COUNTY MATCHES London, Alay 9. At county cricket, Hampshire made 21 (Fowler 51). J. T. Hearne took five wickets for 66 runs. Aliddlesex has lost two wickets for 88 runs. Playing against Sussex, Cambridge scored 158, while the southern county has lost three wickets for 85 runs. Lancashire declared after it had scored 303 for the loss of eight wickets, H Makepeace making 104, Oxford replying with a weakly-compileU 62. C. H. Parkin took six wickets for 30 runs, and AV. E. Hickmott four for 27. Glamorgan was not very successful against Yorkshire, going out for 48 in the first innings, after Yorkshire had compiled 275. Roy Kilner took four wickets for 17 runs and C. G. Macaulay five for 15.
