WELLINGTON’S FRONT DOOR

HARBOUR ENTRANCE SHOULD BE MADE BEAUTIFUL. Much was made at last night’s annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the New' Zealand Forestry League of the fact that Ward Island, so prominently situated in the Wellington Harbour, had now boon proclaimed a public recreation ground. A board had been set up and an endeavour will be made to plant the island with suitable trees, and thus beautify a barren spot and a constant eyesore- As the harbour was Wellington’s front door, said one member, it should certainly be made inviting to the visitor. The president. (Mr. D. R. Hoggard) hoped that a portion of the proceeds of street day could be devoted to the planting of trees on Ward Island.
