GREEK PLEBISCITE

MONARCHISTS TAKE DEFEAT WITH GOOD GRACE.

London, April 16. The Athens correspondent of “The Times” says the returns show that the Republicans secured a maiority of 68 per cent, throughout Greece. It is generally recognised that the plebiscite was conducted fairly, and that the result is genuinely in favour of tho Republic. The Monarchists have taken their defeat with good grace, and admit that they misinterpreted the sentiments of the people.—“ The Times.” Athens, April 18. Die general result of the plebiscite on the future Greek political regime is that 758,000 favour a Republic and 325,000 are against such a result.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. FRENCH RECOGNITION OF REPUBLIC. Paris. April 16. Franco has granted the Republican Government of Greece de jure recognition.—Reuter.
