FOREIGN EXCHANGE IN NEW YORK
New York. April 16. Foreign exchanges for the past fortnight have been unspectacular, but generally are holding their gains. Sterling has reached 4.35 L dollars, representing a fortnight’s gain of a centThe franc has fractionally passed six cents, representing a gain of a cent. The yen. however, has reached a new low level of forty cents the result of the immigration controversy. Meanwhile many investors have been wondering why the stock market has been so dull since the publication of the Dawes report, but observers point out that whenever effects arc palpable they have generally discounted an advance, thus, th© provisions being practically announced beforehand, the element of surprise was lacking, upon the formal publication, hence tne effect on the market had been negligible.—Aus.N.Z.
