METHODIST CHURCH

The quarterly meeting of the Taranaki Street Circuit of the Methodist Church was held at AVesley Church last week, the Rev. C. Eaton being in the ehair. The Rev. Taylor was gfven a hearty welcome to Brooklyn, and the bright prospect for extension of work was outlined by tho superintendent minister. Tho membership* reported was: AVcsJey, 433; Brooklyn. 108; Aro Street, 25; being a net increase of 20 for tho quarter. Th'o balance-sheet showed considerable improvement, with a strong credit balance. A strong committee was set" up to report on the “envelope system,” with Mr. R. G. Denton as convener. The Sunday schools reported steady work, and the Bible classes strong activities, with a large increase in numbers. A committee was appointed to draft rules for church spotts bodies. Mr. IT. Thompson was elected secretary to the Foreign and Home Mission Committee, and representatives wore appointed from each part of tho circuit. Tho Rev. Eaton, spoke of the benefits from the amalgamation with the Central Mission, and the increase in attendance at the services. Arrangements were made for the necessary reorganisation of the Tho meeting spoke in high appreciation of the minister's work. A. special vote of thanks was passed to the local preachers, who had assisted so greatly in carrying on the work at Brooklyn. .Authority was given for tho addition of class rooms at Brooklyn.
