CONTEST FOR McVILLY SHIELD

TROPHY RETAINED BY MASTERTON

The contest for the McVilly Shield, the emblem of the country club premiership in the athletic field, took place at Masterton to-day when teams from the Wanganui, Levin, and Manawatu clubs contested tho Masterton club’s right to the trophy. The day was overcast and showers in the morning had a detrimental effect on tho track. Nevertheless, competition was good and fairly fast times were recorded. Masterton left nothing to chance and firmly established their right to hold the trophy by winning with a clear margin of 110 points. Their total was 140; Manawatu scored 30, Levin 25. Wanganui 3, Masterton Harriers 1. Levin brought a fully representative team; the Manawatu team was slightly smaller in number, while Wanganui was not fully represented. G.
