CHINA AND RUSSIA 1
SIGNING OF TREATY DELAYED NEGOTIATIONS-BROKEN OFF (Rec. March 20, 5.5 p.m.) Peking, March 19. It is learnt that the signature to the Chino-Hussism, treaty has been delayed indefinitely, and negotiations between the parties have been broken off. Following a Cabinet meeting the Premier said that China still desired to resume relations with Russia, but required more time to consider the questions involved. The real reason, however, is seen in the virtual ultimatum that the treaty should be signed before March 19. Open fear is meanwhile expressed that some secret Russo-Chinese agreement will be signed which will bo detrimental to China. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SOVIET ENVOY ORDERED TO LEAVE CHINA (Rec. March 20, 10.10 p.m.) Peking, March 19. The Government has ordered M. Karakhan, the Soviet envoy, to leave China, because he insulted the Government with a series of Notes, the last being an ultimatum that China should recognise Russia within three days. The dismissal has caused a tense situation especially as the Bolsheviks have control of Mongolia, and may march through Manchuria. It is doubtful whether Marshal Chang-tao-Lin. Gov-ernor-General of Manchuria, would attempt. to stop the Bolsheviks. —Sydney "Sun” Cable.
