“SHOULD KNOW BETTER”
MOTORIST AND TRAFFIC ’ BY-LAWS. “Ho is, I am instructed, one of the worst offenders against the traffic bylaws in the city,” declared tho assist-ant-city solicitor (Mr. L. C. Hemery) in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with reference to James David Martin Mclntyre, a land agent, who was charged with failing to have his car lighted, with passing a stationary tram, and with cutting a corner while turning. Mr. Tavener, who represented defendant, said his client was of the opinion that the prosecutions constituted persecution, as his car was frequently on the road. He seemed to be singled out. Mr. Hemery denied the allegation. Defendant, he said, liad been warned so often that, had prosecutions been instituted on each occasion he wouiu have appeared every week. . “Defendant is an old driver, and he should not break the law in fl.is way,” observed the Magistrate (Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M.). "He, of all people, should know better.” Innes amounting to £2 10s. were inflicted.
