PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY WON BY POST AND TELEGRAPH' RINK The Public Service bowling tourney was completed yesterday afternoon on the Thorndon green. In the semi- ■ finals. Post and Telegranh (Markman, skip) beat Audit and Treasury (NaJ- ' Her, skip) by 25 to 14, whilst the Public Works team (Halliday, .skip) i beat Labour (Newton, skip) by 28 to 17. The final game was of 16 heads only, and resulted in Post and Telegraph beating Public Works by 2U points to 11. The winning team was composed of A. T. Markman (s.), R. D. Kelly, C. Nicholls, and A. Marshall, whilst the runners-up were: G. Halliday (s.), G. E. Smith, R. Scott, and C. E. Bennett. The winners hold the challenge shield for one year,, the previous winners being:— . < 1916- Government Printing Office (M. Marks, s.-). 1917- —Post and Telegraph (G. B. Dall, s.). 1918- Railways (D. ROTORUA TOURNAMENT ENDED ' HILL DEFETED IN THE FINAL BT TILIGBJ PH.—PaESS ASBOOIATIOW. Rotorua, February 8. The bowline tournament was finished to-day in glorious weather. Semi-finals. Wakerlev v. Hill—Wakerley put up a poor showing. The game at no stage became interesting, finishing—Hill 23, Wakerley 14. Parker 20 v. Hoskins 19. This was a strenuous battle, and at no time was there any appreciable margin between the players. The Final. The final between Hill and Parker started at 2 p.m. At the seventh head the score was 5 all. At the twelfth Parker was 12, and Hill 6. A three brought Hill into the running—9—12. At the fifteenth Hill added three — 12 —14. The seventeenth brought the score 14 all. Hill drawing finely led by 2at the 18th. Parker laid 4on the 19th—Parker 18, Hill 16. Hill got a single on the 20th—17—18. Parker’s team made, a very difficult head, and when the skips went down he was laying 3, and covered Hill, who missed by inches, the game ending—Parker 20. Hill 17. The teams e;ot a great reception at the finish. The President (Mr. Joseph Banks) congratulated the teams and presentee! the trophies. .He stressed the fine sportsmanship displayed and the fine bowls played by both teams. Mr. Hill (Wellington) replied, and eulogised the arrangements, his own teani t and his opponent’s for their fine play. Mr. Colin Muston, on behalf of Mr. Parker, spoke in similar vein. The President called for cheers for winners and losers, and both were accorded a great ovation.
