THE SCULLING RACE

GROUNDS OF McDEVITT’S PROTEST By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 4. McDevitt, in his protest agains| tho race being awarded to Hannan, says: “I claim that Hannan did not finish at all. He made an illegal short cut, when we were definitely instructed to go somewhere else (finish straight for the beach). I know of no rule that makes it permissible for a sculler to finish wherever he pleases outside the course, even if in a straight line with the finishing point.” FORMAL PROTEST LODGED By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 4. McDevitt has lodged a formal protest against the judge’s decision in the sculling race. Evidence regarding the matter will be heard by the umpire (Air. Norman.
