EVENING MEETING AT ATHTJ3TIC PARK.
A successful evening athletic meeting was held at Athletic Park ywterday under the control of the Athletic Football Sports Club. Most °f th o events were characterised by keen finishes, and the times generally were good. Following are the results;— . 220 Yards—First heat: S. Fittis (18yds.), 1; C. Campbell (12yds.), 2; H. Bennett (14yds,), 3; time, 22 4-ssec. Second heat: A. Grigg (20yds.), 1; L. CElliot (14yds.), 2; A. Stevenson (17yds.), 8: time, 23sec. Third heat: E. Guy (10yds.), 1; E. Pay (18yds.), 2;AJMack (17yds.J, 3: time, 23sec. Final: Fittis, 1; Guy, 2; Black, 3. Won by half a yard, with a yard between second and third. Time, 22 2-sseo. 220yds. Hurdles—J. Malfroy (owe 20), 1; S. Wogan (owe 7), 2; R. Lander (owe 19), 3. Won by a yard, with inches between second and third. Malmanche led over the last hurdle when he stumbled end lost his place. Time, 32 2-ssec. One mile—W. D. Scatchard (95yds.), 1; W. Melrose (50yds.), 2; D. Priestley (25yds.), 3. Won by 5 yards, with 14 yards between second and third. Time, drain. 26 8-5360. One mile cycle race —J. Morris (230 yds.), 1; G. Hall (200yds.), 2; G. Bright (40yds.), 3. A two-man race between Morris and Hall, who finished in the order they started. Won by 10 yards, with 25 yards separating second and third. Time. 2min. 29 2-ssec. 120yds'. Ladies’ Race—Miss S. Swinburne (scr.), 1; Miss E. Posselt (GJyds.), 2; Miss M. Hayvice (2yds.), 8. Won bv a yaird, with half a yard between second and third. Time, 15sec. One mile walk—J. Lankshear (360yds.), 1; F. C. Hickling (75yds.), 2; J. Putter (150yds.), 3. Won by 50 yards, with 2 yards separating second and third. Time, 6min. 39sec. Boys’ race—B. Middleton, 1; W. Killeen, 2; G. Adams, 3. Relay race (440j'ds., 220yds., and 210 yds.)—'Varsity (Messrs. Davies,' Hill, Malfroy, and Smith), 1; Wellington Amateurs (Messrs. Bennett, Malmanche, Cox and Guy), 2; Olympic (Messrs. Stevenson, Fittis, Todd, and Elliot), 3. Davies made the best opening in the first distance, and held the lead with Bennett close for second. At the first exchange. Hill made the most of the start, but Malmanche picked up well. Guy challenged Smith in the run for the tape, and from a bad start came up well to within 12 yards of his man. Elliot finished 2 yards behind Guy for third place. Five teams competed. Time/ Imin. Msec. The next evening meeting will be held on Kelburn Park on Monday.
