AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Bx Tblegkafh—Press Association- ■ Auckland, January 28.. The Auckland provincial tennis championships were continued to-day. There was finb weather, and a fair attendance. . . . E. L. Bartleet and E. W. Griffiths met in the semi-finals of the men’s singles, but the match was started late and the light failed before the contest was concluded, the score being two sets all. Bartleet won the first and third sets (6 —4 and B—6),8 —6), and Griffiths won the second and fourtn (7—5 and 6—4). . Results of other semi-finals so rar played are as follow: — Men’s Doubles. —E. L. Bartleet and H. L. Robson beat Drs. Laurenson and Gower, 3—6, B—6,8 —6, 6 —2, 6—4. Ladies’ Doubles.—Mrs. Hogben and Miss B. M. Knight beat Miss KerrTaylor and Mrs. Scott-Watson, o—6, 6 —2, 6—O; Misses Marjorie and Marion MacFarlane beat Miss N. MacCormick and Mrs. Marshall, 7 —5, 7 9, JQ g In the third round of the ladies’ singles, Mrs.'Hogben beat Mrs. soottWatson, 7—9, 6—3, 6—l. The winner showed good form. A feature of the first day’s play on Saturday was the promising form of eevferal of the younger ’ players. 'AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP POSTPONED. (Rec. Jamin.rv 29, 0.10 a.m.) Melbourne, January 28.. It is raining heavily, and the tennis championships have been postponed until Tuesday.—Press Assn. EXCITING FINAL AT CANNES. (Rec. January 28, 9.20 p.m-) Paris, January 2/. At Cannes in an exciting final Colonel Mayes and Mademoiselle Lenglen beat Aesohilmann and Miss Ryan. Miss Ryan won the ladies singles, Mdlle. Lenglen not competing.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
