NEW TREATIES

THE FRANCO-CZECHO-SLOVA-KIAN PACT NO SECRET MILITARY CLAUSES ADHESION OF BRITAIN INVITED By Telegraph—Press Association. —OOPTXIGHTLondon, January 27. The Paris correspondent of “ The Times” emphasises the importance of the Franco-Czecho-Slovakian Treaty, and says: “Although the text is not yet revealed, it is known that it is a treaty of amity and alliance inspired by the principle , laid down by the League of Nations, of respect to international engagements and existing treaties. The two Powers agree io consult each other on questions of foreign policy, whenever Europe is endangered, in order to secure common action. Both are opposed to any r -,storation of the Hohenzollerns and Hapsburgs. “It is pointed out that the recent visit of Dr. Benes to London was for the purpose of reassuring the British Government regarding tho nature of the Treaty, which is purely defensive, and does not include secret military clauses. It merely provides for the closest relations of the headquarters staffs of the two countries. So far from being conceived in a spirit inimical to Britain, it is intimated that the adhesion of Britain would .be welcomed. Undoubtedly its signature marks Rn 1 important date in post-war history, especially since it appears Io be regarded as a regional agreement designed eventually to form part of a series of similar agreements, the general effect of which would consolidate the political and judicial order of Europe.”—“The Times.” ANGLO-AMERICAN-GERMAN ENTENTE AN EDITOR’S PREDICTION London, January 27. Mr. Gooch, the editor of “The Contemporary Review,” contributes an article in which he predicts an Anglo-American-German Entente as the ifcsult of France’s lack of judgment. He says that France’s dictatorship is approaching its end, and Britain’s power will rise in the same degree as France’s declines. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ITALO-JUGO-SLAVIA TREATY . , (Rec. January 28, 7.15 p.m.) Rome, January 27. The Italo-Jugo-Slavia treaty has been signed. —Reuter.
