MAGISTRATE’S COURT
“A BAD START.” “He has made a bad start since h;s recent arrival in-New Zealand. Phis is his sixth appearance for drunkenness.” This assertion, made by Sen-ior-Sergeant Power in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, referred to a man named AVill mm Cant, who appeared before Mr C. R. Orr-AVal-kor. S.M., on charges of insobriety and obscene exposure. On the first charge accused was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment and to fourteen days on the second. The terms are to run concurrently. Charged wtih the theft of an overcoat, valued at ;£5 10s.. James T\ r ard was remanded until Friday. Bail was fixed at £l5. For committing a. grossly indecent act, a carpenter named Arthur George Hugh Hughes was fined £2, with the option of going to gaol for three days. A remand until Thursday was granted in the case of a labourer named AVilliam Harrison Cowie, who is alleged to have stolon a pipe and -tobacco pouch, valued at £1 Is. <ld. Bai] in the sum of £l5 was allowed.
