NELSON FRUIT
THE NEAV SELLING SCHEME. The details of the scheme under which the Nelson fruit-growers ore selling their fiuit during the coming season are now complete, and the new system will come into force at the beginning of next month, says a correspondent. AU the fruit enrolled under the Control Board will bear special labels according to graxle. and the Government inspector’s stamp showing 'the fruit is up to the required standard, will be affixed to the label. The fruit, when packed and inspected, will be gathered into three collecting points, one at each of the Nelson ports, and a regular supply to, the various markets issued from these points. All fruit passing through the collecting points will be accounted for by the Control Board, and payments to growers for fruit sold will be made at regular intervals. Brices are being fixed in consultation with the wholesale distributors, and will bo varied periodically. The wholesale distributors in both AVellington and Auckland have taken up the echeme whole-heartedly, and are giving all the assistance possible. 'l'bo enrolling of a province under a voluntary organisation of this kind has been a big undertaking, and deserves all the success that may attend it. The willingness of growers to submit their fruit to'an impartial inspector before offering it to the public shows a genuine dreire to improve the whole standing of their industry, and buyers will no doubt show their appreciation of such action. Success in standardisation of grade is not obtained in a, day or a week, but it can be obtained and the Nelson growers aro ma-king a tag effort to do it.
