In the past two years the number of bankruptcies has been very heavy, and we ar© thus still feeling the effects of the slump of 1921. It was not until May ,1921, that there was any noticeable increase in bankruptcies, when the number was practically double what it was in the previous month; since then the number has never gone below 32 in any month, except January, 1922. Last year 49 was the lowest in any one month, and the highest was 74 in November last. Once more farmers account for the greatest number of insolvencies, labourers 'coming next and the motor trade third. The principal sections contributing to the year’s bankruptcies, compared with 1922, were as follow:—
Farmers account for about 25 per epnt. of the total, although there is an appreciable decrease in the number as compared with 1922.
