EVE OF SUMMER CARNIVAL

At 6.30 p.m. to-morrow when the cronnssion starts off from Post Office Square. Welcome Week Summer Carnival will bo considered officially opened. The carnival will be characterised by the variety rind originality of entertainments —the fruits of a couple of months’ hard-thinking and labour by an energetic committee. Newtown Park will have a programme full of new entertainments in the open air everv evening—treacle-bun race, ap-ple-bobbing contests, ladies’ and. men’s football match, pictures and jazzing in the open, etc., and many events that, though not new, will be outstanding on account. of their class. One or more bands will be in attendance every evening. The procession itself is expected to’ be unusually good. With its nine bands, numerous trades and arts and crafts displays, funny sketches, fire 1 brigade display, fine show from the Harbour Board, illuminated tramcar, and wonderful t-iril-wha, it i promises to be full of interest. ■
