After the holidays it is most agreeable to review pictorially all the leading attractions, and in this week’s isi sue of the “New Zealand Sporting and Dramatic Review’’ there is ample opportunity afforded to secure a lasting souvenir. Pride of place is given to the Auckland Racing Club’s summer carnival at Ellerslie, and the Trotting Club’s big gathering at Epsom. Exerting contests in the several days are represented with a graphic fidelity that will revive memories in spectators. The Caledonian Society’s sports on the Basin Reserve, Wellington, cover an attractive set of competitions, and the Mardi Gras carnival in Napier is the subject of a generous selection of striking photographs showing the interest taken in this picturosuue procession. Contenders for the Sanders Cup make up an excellent page that will appeal to all interested in yachting. A unique series of pictures shows the hush fires in the Poverty Bay district with the large area swept by merciless flames. In the miscellaneous division are photos of Auckland’s representative cricket team. Sir Arthur Myers, Viscount Leverhulme, Ponsonby Swimming Carnival, the huge stadium in Paris where the Olympic Games are to be held, etc., etc. The stage and. motion pictures world have an attractive showing.
