Total to January 10, £7114 Bs. 4d. Taking into consideration the awkward time of vea.r in which tho appeal was made and the holiday break, the response has been satisfactory, said Mr. G. Mitchell, secretary of the fund. We have in sight £7OOO of the £lO.OOO required, leaving £3OOO yet to find. Other centres are watching our effort and they will not be able to taunt our district with want of generosity to a good cause on this occasion. T believe the whole of the money will be, subscribed this month. Many people in the city have not yet given to the fund. These are being written to. The same applies to the country, besides which further local appeals arc being made by tlio Mayors in tho appeal district. If, therefore, each one does their share the fund can bo closed at the end of th's month. T again ask citizens in and around Wellington who have not yet so far subscribed to let us have tho’r contributions at tho earliest possible moment.”
