TWO TONS OF HAPUKA
BIG HAUL OFF MANOR ISLAND What is regarded as a record catch of hapuka this season is reported as having been accomplished during the past week-end by a party aboard an Auckland fishing yacht. It is stated (says the “Herald”), that they secured about two tons of hapuka in the waters off Mayor Island. The first were packed in ice and were sent on to the Auckland market. A partv aboard the launch Sea Queen secured a fine haul of sehnapper in the western reach of the harbour on Tuesday. Tn one haul they netted about 500 fish—all sehnapper except about 20 trevalli. This is the best single haul of sehnapper secured in the harbour waters for some mouths. The fish were in excellent condition. A launch party, when fishing off Mavor Island on Thursday of last week, observed three large I swordfish disporting themselves about a quarter of a mile from the island. The swordfish were in a very playful mood and at times leaped about 10 feet out of the water. The party did not have the necessarv gear aboard or would have tried their luck with the swordfish.
