♦ — POLICE AND SUMMONS CASES. Mr. E. Page, S.M.. dealt with the police and summons cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. A charge of indecent exposure was denied by a young man named William Henry Gardner, who endeavoured to establish an alibi. His Worship held that the evidence adduced in that connection was not convincing, but. remarked that the matter was not tree from doubt. “That does not mean that accused has established his innocence,” added-tho Magistrate, but I am of opinion that it would be unsafe to convict on the evidence before the Court.” 'Hi© information was accordingly dismissed. The theft of a costume and a pair of shoes, valued at £l7 75., was admitted! by Ada Smith, who was remanded until Tuesday for sentence. A similar remand was granted in the case of Maggie Hughes, who appeared on a charge of vagrancy. A fine of £5, with tho alternative of spending twenty-one days in gaol, was imposed on William McGaughey, who had secreted himself on the Port \ icCharged with entering New Zealand in contravention of the immigration regulations, Percy Bellamy was ordered to be removed from tho country. Charges of assault, obscene language, and assisting arrest wero adjourned. SUMMONS CASES. For carrying on the business of a second-hand dealer before the issue of his license, Aubrey Cecil Harvey was fined and costs.. Boarding a moving train led to Robert Wallace, being fined £1 and costs. William Boyd, who retailed poison without a lioens.e, was fined £1 and costs. For a similar offence, F. Brammall was ordered to pay costs. For transacting business on a Sunday, Neil Blair Austin was fined £1 and costs. Failure to close at 6 p.m. cost tho City Fish Supply £2 and! costs. A fine of £lO and costs was imposed on the New Brighton Co-op. Money Club, who had neglected to furnish a return of their income under tho Friendly Societies Act. Similarly charged, St. Mary’s branch of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society of Timaru was fined £5 and costs. On a, charge of assault, Maud Hickey was convicted and ordered to pay the costs, and was bound over to keep the peace. A charge of using obscene language preferred against Howard Walshe Spears was dismissed.
