FORGED CHEQUES

GOODS AND MONEY OBTAINED

In the Police Court to-day, Albert William Grant, a married) man, 27 years of _ age, was charged with obtaining from J. and J. Arthur (Limited) goods to the value of £4 3s. 6d. and £5 10s. 6d. by means of a valueless cheque; with forging a cheque on the National Bank for £lO by purporting it to be signed by M. Campbell ; also with obtaining £lO in goods and money from Reddell’s, Limited, by means of a cheque similarly signed. In a signed statement, accused said that ho came from Christchurch, and while in Dunedin had consumed a fair amount of liquor, as he felt unwell. He did not remember signing the cheques and had clothing in his possession that he did not remember buying. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence.
