POST AND TELEGRAPH CONFERENCE

IMPROVED. METHODS PROBABLE During the past week a conference of controlling officers in the Pest aud Telegraph Department has keen held in the General Post Office, Wellington. It was attended by the Administrative and principal officers of .the General Post Office and by all district telegraph chief postmasters, and superintendents of teleg -.aph offices. The matters discussed at the conference were concerning the general management of the Department, and it is stated that many derisions were arrived at which will make for the better working of the Department, and tend towards improving tho services to the public. Tho Secretary of fho General Post Office informed a Dominion reporter that although the matters discussed were important they wore hardly likely to bo of interest to tho public, as they are mostly machinery questions concerning the organisation of the werk, altliougli it was expected that iho public would appreciate tho better service which the Department will be able to render as a result of the conference. Every officer present had nn opportunity of expressing his opinions, wd there was brought to the conference a wealth of information concerning improved methods of conducting the Department’s bi siness. The different officers who attended the conference aro now returning to their stations.
