FARM HANDS
Sir, —I sec. in last week’s Dominion that the Farmers’ Union Cojiferonco decided to instruct their Dominion Executive to communicate with the provinces in order to get recommendations for improving the conditions of fnrm workers and providing them with a working plan for annual and n‘h»r holidays. What is the good of all th*** delegates meeting if it is only to twiX things over then turn them out to grass for another twelve months ? Tb»t Is about all their meetings come to. The farm hands could meet and talk
things over, but what they want is to get a Bill passed by Mr. Massey for a Saturday half-holiday. Working hours, 7.30 a.m. to li; 1 to 5 p.m. five days a week, and 7.30 to 2.30 on Saturday. The farm hands dare not meet in public and discuss this, as they would be fired off their job straight away. I think the only way to do is to get some member of Parliament interested and bring it up straight away in the House, and not have anything to do with unions, arbitration, or farmers’ conference —I am, etc., FARM HAND.
