KOHN SHIELD TOURNEY WELLINGTON DEFEAT AUCKLAND. Br Telegraph.— Press Association. Christchurch, August 21. The annual Rugby football tourney between representatives of the Wellington. Auckland and Christchurch tramway staffs for the Kohn Shield, began at Lancaster Park to-day, when the two visiting teams met. After, a hard-fought struggle in the mud, Wellington beat Auckland by 18 points to nij. The game resolved itself into a forward battle, although at times the Wellington backs got going and handled the heavy ball in an astonishing manner. A FORWARD GAME MARLBOROUGH BEATEN BY CANTERBURY B. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Blenheim, August 21. The Marlborough representatives met the Canterbury B team to-day in bleak weather. There was a large attendance. The visiters made it a forward gairie They were excellent in loose rushes, and gained ground continually. The local forwards played a hard game, but lacked combination and lost many opportunities through infringements. The backs on both sides lacked brilliance. The smothering tactics of the local forwards hampored the visiting backs. The Marlborough backs were without finish, but showed that they had possibilities with more combination. The first spell score was: Canterbury, 6; Marlborough 5. In the second spell play was extremely fast, the ball travelling from end to end of the field. Canterbury added to the score with a potted goal, and Marlborough kicked a penalty goal. The final score was: Canterbury, 10; Marlborough, 8. Prendeville) siding.Scots College Old Boys were granted permission to play a match against Scots College on Saturday. Teams representing St. Bedes College, Christohurch, and St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, will try conclusions at the Basin Reserve this afternoon for the shield donated some years ago by Dean Holley. The game will commence at 2.15 p.m. Mr. E. Perry will be the referee.

In connection with the game between Athletic and Petone off Saturday the Rugby Union, has made arrangements for the sale of ground tickets and the opening of a special box plan for the stand which will be at E. Perry’s, Manners Street, where seats may be reserved after noon to-day. Season, ticket-holders do not require to book. The junior representatives will play Wairarapa on Saturday, at Masterton, and will train at Athletic gymnasium 011 Thursday night at 7.30, Mr. Morgan will lie manager of the team, which will leave on Saturday morning and return on Monday.
