At 1.15 o’clock yesterday moraine* the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Tainui arrived in the stream at Wellington from London and Southampton. The Port Health Officer boarded the ship and granted pratique. The vessel thya berthed at the King's Wharf to disembark her passengers and nut out part cargo. The Tainui loaded at London, and sailed on March 7 for Southampton to nick up her passengers. She left the latter port on March 8 in fine weather. Two days out westerly winds and rough weather were met with, which lasted until arrival at Colon on March 24. The run across the Pacific was favoured with light, trade winds at first. A two-hours’ stop was made off Pitcairn Island on Auril 5 to exchange mails with the islanders, and to purchase frosh fruit aud vegetables from them. After an absence from Wellington of over four years the steamer Onihi is due to-day from Auckland. The vessel has on board transhipments tiom the Canadian Seigneur. It is interesting to note that in addition to the fact that the Opihi is coming here after a long absence, she is also- the first vessel to bring cargo south from Auckland from a vessel in the new service of the Canadian Government Line. The Opihi is to sail this evening for Auckland, via Lyttelton. Charles McArthur and Co. are the local agents. VANCOUVER MAIL SERVICE. Tho Union Company’s R.M.S. Niagara arrived at Suva from Vancouver, via Honolulu, at 10 o’clock yesterday morning. and was expected io leave there at 4 o’clock ywterday afternoon for Auckland, where she is due on Friday morning. She will leave again on Friday evening for Sydney. The R.M.S. Makura, from Syanev. via Auckland and Suva, arrived at Honolulu at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and sailed at 5 p.m. the same day for Vancouver. RAMA FOR CHATHAMS. Tho Rama left Wellington at 5 o’clock laat evening for Owenga and Kaingaroa (Chatham Island), via Lvttelton. The vessel took general cargo with her, and will bring island produce back to Wellington. She should arrive back here at the beginning of next week. THE ISLAND STEAMERS. The Tofua arrived at Suva at 7.45 o’clock yesterday morning from Nukualofa. She will leave Suva to-morrow for Auckland. The Flora, from Auckland, arrived at Rarotonga at 9 p.m. on Friday. She will leave on the return trip to Auckland on Friday evening. CASTLEPOINT LIGHT. Owing to a break in the endless chain that drives the light at the Castlepoint lighthouse on Sunday, there was no light showing on Sunday night. It was hoped to have the damage repaired by last evening. but until full repair ia effected the light is likely to be irregular. MARAMA AT 8 A.M. The Union Company received a wireless message from the Marama yesterday intimating that she expected to arrive in th stream at 8 o’clock this morning from Sydney. Maunganui sailed from San Francisco at noon last Friday lor Papeete. Rarotonga, Wellington, and Sycney. She should reach Wellington on Friday, May 4. THE CITY OF BOMBAY. The Federal Line report that the City of Bombay will sail from Auckland to-day for Napier and Wellington in continuation of her voyage from New York. The vessel is due at Wellington on April 25. CUMBERLAND AT HULL. A cable message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Cumberland arrived at Hull on the morning of April 10 from Wellington. She left here on February 18. Cable news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Co. that the Hororata sailed from Sydney on Friday for Melbourne and Adelaide, to discharge the remainder of her New York cargo. THE PORT NAPIER. The 0. and D. Line advise that the .Port Napier will leave Auckland at daybreak to-morrow for London via Montevideo. THE WHAKATANE. The Federal Line state that the Whakatane will leave Wanganui roadstead tonight for New Plymouth and Wellington to fill up. She is due at Wellington on Monday next, and will leave here on April 25 for Avonmouth, Livers©.l, .VanChester, and Glasgow.

THE RUAHINE. It is reported by the New Zealand Shipping Go. that, the Ruahine. now loading at Port Chalmers, will leave there at noon to-morrow for Lyttelton and Wellington to fill up. The vessel is due at : Wellington on Sunday, and will sail from here on Tuesday next for Southampton and London, via Panama. MAHIA’S MOVEMENTS. Tho Shaw. Savill aud Albion Co. state that the Mahia will now leave Wellington on Thursday lor Lyttelton and Dunedin to unload the remainder of her cargo from Liverpool. The ship is to load subsequently at Port Chalmers*, Timaru, and Wellington. She is expected back at Wellington on Mav 4. and will sail from here on May 9 for London, via Montevideo. BEMBRIDGE AT HULL The G. H. Scales Company have been notified by cable that the steamer Bernbridge arrived at Hull yesterday from Lvttelton. THE RARANGA. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. announce that the Raranga will leave New 'Nvmouth to-morrow morning for Wanganui roadstead. Port Chalmers, Blulf, Lyttelton, and Wellington. The vessel is <ue at Wellington on May 2, and will sail finally from here on May 6 for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. WAIMANA LEAVES NEWCASTLE. Cabled, advice has been received by the «haw. Savill and Albion Co. that the Waimana left Newcastle on Sunday morning tor Auckland, where she is due on Thursday afternoon to complete discharge of her cargo from Loudon. The vessel will subsequently load in New Zealand for New York, Boston and London. THE ADMIRAL CODRINGTON. The Admiral Codrington arrived at Gisborne on Sunday morning fram Falmouth and Cardiff for Homeward loading. She will call at Wellington later. miscellaneous. Tho Ripple is to leave Wellington this evening for Akitio, Napier, and Gisborne. The vessel is expected back on Sunday, sailing for the East Conat to-day week. The Union Company's Kaluga sailed from Wellington last evening for Lyttelton and Bluff. The vessel will load at tho latter port on Friday, and subsequently nt Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru. and Lyttelton for Wellington. New Plymouth, and Nelson. , , The Canterbury Shipping Co. announce that the Breeze is expected at Wellington to-morrow from W.anganui. She is to tret away later in the day for Lyttelton Timaru. and Dunedin. The Corinna, from the south, should reach Wellington to-day to load for New Plymouth. Tt*. Nelson. Tho Wakatu is due at Wellington tp-aa> from Lyttelton and Kaikoura. The vessel is to return to these ports to-morrow afternoon. , ... The liner Opawa will leave Wellington at noon to-day for Lyttelton to continue discharge of her Liverpol cargo. The Gale is duo at Wellington on Thursday from Dunedin. Oamaru. Timaru. and Lvttelton. She is to get away later in the day for Wanganui. Due back on Sunday, the Gale will load the following dnv for her four usual south ports. The Wanoka strived at Wellington last evening from Auckland. She is to sail to-day for Lyttelton, Dunedin. Bluff Oamarn. and Timaru. The Storm is to load at Dunedin tomorrow. and thence at Oamaru. Timaru, and Lvttelton. for Wellington .and Wanganui. Due here on Sunday, she will leave tho following day for her destination. The Katoa is due at Wellington to-mor-row fro-.n Dunedin, Oamaru. Timaru and

Lyttelton. She will get away later in the day for Auckland. W. M. Bannatyne and Co. report that the Bygulus will not now arrive at Wellington until to-morrow from. Nelson to load for Westport, Grey mouth, anff Hokitika. She should get uw«y for the West Const later in the aay.

The Union Company report that, the Kurow is to load at Dunedin to-morrow, and then at Oamaru, Timaru. and Lyttelton for Wellington. Napier, and Auckland.

The Waverley is timed to clear Wellington at 2 o'clock this afternoon for Patea. She should arrive back on Thur*day to load for a return trip. The Kauri was expected to leave Westport last evening with coal and timber for Wellington. In that case she .should reach here early to-morrow morning. The Waitangi is to go on the Patent Slip to-morrow for overhaul prior to entering the Patea-Wellington coastal trade to the agency of W. M. Bannatyne aid Co.

The Koromiko Is now loading coal at Westport for Wellington. A projected departure from Wellington to-day is the Nffahere for Westport tuid Greymouth. The vessel has b«en under survey at Wellington. The Komata, is to leave Wellington tomorrow evexiing for Westport. She will take passengers and cargo, and will toad at Westport back to Wellington. The Karori. from Portland, is due ax Wellington to-day to dsenarge a cargo of cement. From here she is to proceed to Greymouth to load coal and timber back to Wellington. Levin and Co. report that the Kennedy is expected to arrive at IVeilington on Tuesday next from Lyttelton, via F»xton. The Wairuna from Newcastle, via Vancouver. arrived at San Francisco »t 7 a.m. on Friday. She is to leave ’Frisco to-morrow for Auckland. The Union Company’s Kawatirl. from Nukualofa, arrived nt Auckland at 2 o clock on Scnday afternoon. The vessel brought fruit from the Islands. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain W. Williams has joino 4 the Holmdole. vice Captain M. T. Holm. Captain D. McPherson has relinquished his post on the Kamona. and Captain J W. Cameron is now in command. Messrs. W. Deiley and J. M. Barr have been engaged as first and second officers respectively of the llama. Mr. W. Byslop has joined that vessel as second engineer, and Mr. O’Sullivan as third. Mr. W. Williams, chief officer, has left the John, and Mr. F. Lawton. late second officer, has been promoted to chief officer. Mr. A. J, Moody is now in Mr. Lawton’s Mr. W. H. Maya has vacated the position of third engineer of the Kaiapoi. and Mr. J. W. Gill has replaced him.
