PREMIER TO OPEN CAMPAIGN TO-MORROW BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ■ Oamaru, April 15. The roll for the Oamaru by-election closed on Saturday, over 1000 new enrolments having been made. Of these quite 600 are new names of electors coming of age and new arrivals in the district.
The contest will be confined to the two candidates, the Hon. E. P. Lee (Reform), and Mr. J. A. MacPherson (Liberal-Labour). Neither candidate has spoken' yet, but the campaign will open in real earnest on Tuesday night, the Prime Minister being announced to speak at Palmerston.
“QUITE ABLE TO WIN” BY Telegraph—press association. Dunadin, April 15. Mr. T. K. Sidey says the statement that Liberals intend to take a hand in the Oamaru election has been put out as an excuse for tho Reform Party to enter the contest. There had been no decision for any Liberal to take up arms for Mr. Macpherson, who, he believed, was quite able to win again. It was not his wish to have outside help, and such help was only likely if the Reform Party entered the field.
