OTIRA TUNNEL
NOT YET READY FOR TRAFFIC BY TIMOBATH.—PBMS ASSOCIATION. Hokitika, April 13. Tho Minister of Public Works, replying to an inquiry by the Westland Chamber of Commerce, states that he is unable to arrange for the early transport of timber, etc., through the Otira tunnel, owing to the contractors requiring uninterrupted use of the tunnel in completing their work, while thp Railway Department has a large amount of “gear to be taken through. In addition, a quantity of signal equipment has to be erected in the tunnel. The carriage of timber, etc., will be commenced as soon as he can arrange for it. without delaying the completion of the tunnel and the attendant works.
