According to these figures the total supply in 1922 was 1,825,970 tons, made up as follows: — . Tons. Frozen beef 237,191 Chilled bpef 299.064 Fresh-killed beef 4,045 Beef live stock ; 15,929 Totsfl imported beef 556,229 Fiozen mutton and lamb ... 285,411 Fresh-killed mutton and lamb 7,027 Total mutton and lamb ... 292,438 Ilome-groivn beef 767,300 Home-grown mutton and lamb 254,600 I’otal of beef 1,323,529 Total mutton and lamb 547,038 1,870,567 Tress re-exports 44,597 1,825,970 With respect to beef Home-groivn supplies exceeded the imports by 211,071 tons, and ivere equal to 58 per cent, of the total. Of the 547,038 tons of mutton and lamb the United Kingdom fumished nearly half the quantity. Of the frozen beef imported into tho United Kingdom last year, New Zealand furnished 29,017 tons, equal to a little more than 12 per cent., but compared irith tlie total supplies of imported beef New Zealand’s contribution amounts to just about 2.2 per cent. South America supplied 140,758 tons of frozen beet and 298,997 tons of chili'ed beef, or a total of 439,755 tons, out of 556,229 tons of beef imported into Britain. Of the 285,411 tons of mutton and lamb imported into Britain last .year New Zealand supplied 150,803 tons, which was considerably less than in 1921, when New ZoalanA furnished 222.687 tons out of 336,935 tons.

WOOL VALUES ADVANCING ; BRADFORD TOPS HIGHER There are tc be no public auctions of wool in England until April 24, when the third series of London wool sales ivill begin. The trade is thus given a clear month in which to digest stocks, and this has had a very good effect on wool values. There was a firmer tone displayed at the Wellington sale on March 27, and at tho Dunedin sale held last week there was practio ally an all-round improvement, Further improvement will be shown at the remaining southern sales, particularly at tho Christchurch sale, which is to he held on Thursday. The outlook for tlip next. London sales is very good if the quotations for Bradford tops afford any guide. Tops of practically all counts advanced last week, as the following shows: —

All the counts, with tho exception of 4S’s, show advances, the fine wools riciiig Id- to 2d., and the coarse wools a halfpenny per lb. This improvementis evidence that there is still a very strong consumptive demand, which makes the outlook for the raw material very promising. CUSTOMS REVENUE. Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington yesterday totalled £96-10.
