The New Zealand tennis players are all busy practising and expect that they will have fully regained their form for next week’s matches, against Now South Wales. Investigations have exploded the theory that the New Zealander’s poor showing at tho Orange tournament was duo to ptomaine poisoning. It now appears that the intense heat and change of water, combined with constant travelling, an over-crowded programme and an attack of dysentery knocked out the players. Many other visitors suffered similarly.—Press Assn. ; MIRAMAR SOUTH CLUB. This new Miramar Club held its first tournament on Easter Monday, men’s and ladies’ handicap singles and handicap combined doubles- being played. In the men’s singles, C. Smith (rec. 12), Telford (rec. 1), and McInnes (scr.), reached tho semi-finals. Smith drew tho bye, and Telford beat Mclnnes 40—32, after a good game. In the final Smith won rather easily, 40—24. Smith, who is a junior Wellington. College boy, played very steadily, and showed considerable promise. The ladies’ singles were fought out between Miss E. Bell (rec. 7), and Miss Lithgow (rec. 12), the former winning, 40—32. In the combined doubles final, Lay and Miss Longley (rec. 11), met Mclnnes and Miss Lithgow (rec. f), the former proving victorious, 40 —38.
