OPENING OF SEASON TO-DAY. A start will be made to-day with tho Rugby football season proper, and the matches to be played will be in the nature of club benefits. Two strong attractions will bo provided at the Athletic Park in the matches Poneke ‘v. Athletic and Marist v. Berhampore. At Petone, Petone will meet Oriental. Under a scheme devised for the sale of tickets, the proceeds will be distributed tor the benefit of. clubs and their gymnasium funds. Apart from the worthy object of assisting the clubs, the games themselves should be well worth seeing, as they will give a good idea of the probable season’s strength of the teams engaged. It is expected that a record number of spectators will be present at the Athletic Park, as over 600 tickets have been disposod of up to the present, and the highest previous gathering at the Park on an opening day was 4500. Tho tickets on sale arc available either for use at the Atb'etic Park or Petone Recreation Ground.
