FIRE AT MAKURI
STORE AND CONTENTS DESTROYED. About 3.45 o’clock on Tuesday morning, a fire occurred in the little .township of Makuri. A building, owned by Mr. G. Powell, and in which ho carfTed on the business of general storekeeper, was. with the contents, totally- destroyed. A number of residents and visitors who had just returned from a danco got q'uickly to the scene of the outbreak to render any possible assistancqjSbut tho flames had secured such a firm hold, and the heat was so intense, that they were powerless to act. It was impossible to get within 30' or 40 yards of the blazing building. Mr. Powell, who is a heavy loser, h;Ad the building insured in ihe South British Office for £750. The insurance on (lie contents is not yet available.
