MORE BITTER

NORFOLK FARM WORKERS’ STRIKE LABOURERS INTIMIDATED BY Telegbaph. —Pbebs association. —Copyright. (Rcc. April 4, 5.5 p.m.) London, April 4. The Norfolk farm workers’ strike is becoming more bitter. Bands of strikers armed with sticks are patrolling the northern area, singing “The Red Flag.” Some farmers have obtained police protection,, while many are carrying shot guns. The intimidation of labourers continues. On one farm a band of over 200 strikers ordered the men to cease work and chased them across a field. Policemen are now accompanying the strikers. One farmer declined to withdraw his labourers, but offered to settle the argument with any single striker by fisticuffs, declaring that he was willing to back himself at 20 to 1. When the challenge was not accepted he placed a £5 note in a box which the men carried for the relief of strikers’ children. The strikers then withdrew. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
